The seconds finished their season this week as league champions after Simonside conceded. However on Sunday they took on Tantobie in the Robert Dunnett trophy final. Batting first Tantobie reached 79 for 7 with strong middle order Batting secure a defendable total. In reply Rainton struggled with ictory only being achieved with the last two men at the crease, with chairman Graham Avent hitting the winning run. So a close victory by one wicket against a strong Tantobie side, comiserations to them ut thanks for a great game of cricket. Finally the man of the match was awarded to Courtney of Tantobie for outstanding efforts with both bat and ball. This final game saw the seconds walk away with the Division 2 title, Robert Dunnett trophy, Norman Martin Cup and the Amos Lowing Wilson Shield, all in all a very successful season.
The firsts played their last league game aginst Simonside, with Simonside seconds conceding to the seconds, we expected a tough game. However a shortage of players had hit Simonside today as they were bowled out for 28. With D Motwani top scoring with 14. With Will Orchin taking 7 for 6 and Chris Valance 3 for 19. In reply we saw ourselves past the total with 10 wickets in tact Neil Matthews 19 not out and Michael Robbie 12 not out seeing our league season to a close. However with other clubs still to play our 4th place berth is not yet certain. The firsts do have one final game next week as we take on Stanhope in the league cup final next Sunday at Hunwick CC.
