The penultimate week of the North East Durham league 2017, saw the final game for the first team against South Hetton. S Hetton were put into bat, reaching a huge total of 283 for 4, before they decalred. S McCoy making 153 not out and B Stewart 97, our bowlers toiled with Chris Valance 2 for 75, Scott Taylor 0 for 79, Derrick Steinberg 0 for 62 and Darren Portrey 1 for 62. set a formidable total which we looked unlikely to get. However the lads put on a brilliant performance to end up only 41 runs short. Neil Matthews 15, Bobby Batie 17, Luke Richardson 16, Michael Robbie 75, Chris Valance 34, Roy Hardwick 0, Tom Rennie 6, James Messer (a stunning run out) for 19, Scott Taylor 28 not out, Derrick Steinberg 5 and Darren Portrey 0 not out. So there concluded the 2017 season, a third place finish, yet so close and so far from the title.
