Two sides of a coin on Saturday, a good win for the first team and a close loss for the seconds. Jack won the toss and put Shields into bat. We bowled them out for 94, this was despite being 33 for 6, but a good performance by their lower order saw them through. But Chris Valance 4 for 9 did the bulk of the damage alongside Kieran Hill 3 for 15, Jimmy Messer 2 for 14, Derrick Steinberg 0 for 20 and Conor Henderson 1 for 33. After the interval Neil Matthews got us off to a good start with 21, Ben Storey 2, Luke Richardson 26, Lee Henderson 1, Connor Henderson 15 not out, Stuart Archbold 1 and skipper Jack Holding 10 not out saw us over the line with 5 down. The seconds travelled to a new venue for us Ryhope. Batting first the hone side made 126 all out. With S Gillan taking 3 for 39, David Wales 2 for 42, Kieran Burrell 3 for 15 and Grant Wilson 2 for 20. After the turnaround, we lost Tom Rennie early for 1, L Johnson 1, Ralph Richardson 13, A Carse 6, Kieran Burrell 3, Ben Mummery scored his maiden 50 for the club, with 53 not out. Scott Gillan 14, Grant Wilson 0, Dave Wales 3, Adam Bell 4 and skipper Colin Henderson 3 not out. A narrow loss. Hard copies acaliable if requested... After the longest pre season ever, caused by Covid 19. Saturday 11th July saw our season opener against Littletown. Sadly it was a loss.
