On the field the first eleven stepped up to D&NECL Division 3 and secured a competitive 5th placed finish. Sadly losing a few key games against sides around us, such as Littletown and Wearmouth cost us. However Jack , Lee and all the first team should be commended for their efforts.
The second team finished as the best of the rest in Division 5. Winning 7 games and losing 10, in a division which included three top sides in Kimblesworth, Mainsforth and Brandon. Kieran and Grant battled with a changing side week by week and performed brilliantly in light of this.
The Rainton Rockets completed their first full season, visiting and hosting numerous local clubs. We secured our first wins (both against Silksworth) and had a hugely successful visit to a tournament at Eppleton, finishing 5th out of 8 clubs against some long established teams. Well done to Gavin and all the Rockets and coaches!
Finally Rainton Ladies were formed this season and have gone from strength to strength. From the small acorn of a women’s have a go day, we played two games against Castle Eden, winning 1 and losing 1. I hope entry into the league next year will see the ladies team flourish. Well done to Rachel for her efforts.
Off the field we have seen further improvements, our Pavilion was formally opened by Durham & England bowler Mark Wood! On a day which we fielded four teams, for the first time in the clubs 173 year history. Work to fully enclose the Hazard with a new fence and work to improve the square, level the outfield and improve the drainage is now also complete.
Well done to the committee, players and volunteers for their efforts this season!
