At the other side of the Hazard two Rainton Rockets teams were in action. One side sadly lost by 32 runs, however in the other game we saw an 8 run win! The first win by our Rainton Rockets since their formation last year! Well done to all our Rockets.
A big day for the club dawned early - at 9.30am three Rainton teams were in action on the same field, meaning for the first time in the clubs 173 years Rainton fielded 5 teams in one weekend. Our Rainton Women get underway with another practise ahead of their maiden game next Sunday vs Castle Eden. At the other side of the Hazard two Rainton Rockets teams were in action. One side sadly lost by 32 runs, however in the other game we saw an 8 run win! The first win by our Rainton Rockets since their formation last year! Well done to all our Rockets. At 12.15 a special guest arrived. Local (ish) lad Mark Wood of Ashington, Durham & England arrived to open our Sport England funded Pavilion after a 2 year covid delay. After a speech by Ian Kitching thank all those involved and our brilliant sponsors. Mark then cut the ribbon with the help of Alan Dovaston from Sport England, Iain Scott & Claire Rowntree pur local councillors. This was followed by a lunch for our guests and sponsors. Whilst Mark spent an hour chatting with the kids from Rainton & Silksworth, players former players and all those present. Finally our second team took to the field to take on Boldon CA, in what turned into a very close game and a win by 1 wicket! Batting first the visitors made 147 all out. With Scott Taylor taking 1 for 37, Michael Hall 3 for 16, James Messer 0 for 32, Rachael Petherick 5 for 33 and Kieran Burrell 1 for 22. In reply we lost Phil Nathan early for 4. However 58 by Neil Matthews, 16 by Michael Hall and 26 from Ralph Richardson saw us cruising to victory. However after this the wickets fell in quick succession, leading to a nail biting finish! Scott Taylor 2, James Messer 12, Ben Mummery 0, Kieran Burrell 1, Rachael Petherick 5, but David Wales 6 not out abd Darren Portrey 0 not out saw us home, securing us in 4th spot in the division.
