Both teams today played Tantobie, the firsts played at the Hazard. Tantobie were put into bat, reaching 22 all out, A Gilbert top scoring on 6. With Will Orchin 7 for 12 and Brad Davis 3 for 9. In reply Neil Matthews 10 and Tom Rennie 7 both not out saw us to victory. In a good natured game against a young side full of canny lads.
Up at Tantobie the seconds again fielded first, with Tantobie reaching 47 all out, A Awan top scoring on 21. Derrick Steinberg taking 0 for 30 whlist at the other end the show was stolen by a possible league record from Darren Portrey of 10 wickets for 10 runs off 12 overs including 7 maidens. After tea Colin Henderson 19 not out, Graham Avent 0 and Stuart Archbold 30 saw us over the line. Well done lads and thanks to Tantobie. The first team played host to a strong, defending champions Burnhope and unfortunately saw a masterclass on grinding out a win. Burnhope batted first reaching 186 all out, however 8 dropped catches cost us. As a total of 50 all out would have looked likely if catches had been held, however S TWEEDY top scored with 40. Brad Davis 0 for 41, Chris Paton 5 for 60, Chris Valance 2 for 41 and Will Orchin 2 for 36. In reply we struggled against one of the leagues top bowling sides. Neil Matthews 4, Lee Henderson 34, Michael Robbie, Michael Williamson and Chris Valance 0, Luke Richardson 11, Will Orchin 3, Chris Paton 1, Brad Davis 11, James Messer 0 and Kieran Paton 6 not out closed the innings.
The seconds had more luck away at Burnhope. Burnhope batted first reaching 149 for 5, with D Jowett's 54 not out providing a chunk of the total. Darren Portrey 3 for 27, Derrick Steinberg 2 for 18, Connor Henderson 2 for 68 and Glenn Moody 1 for 32. After tea we got off to an interesting start, Colin Henderson 9, Steve Hutchinson 4, Stuart Archbold 13, Manava Seth 79 not out, Tom Rennie 25, Kit Kumar 0, Connor Henderson 1, Glenn Moody 2, Darren Portrey not out 18 saw us over the line and maintained the second teams lead at the top of Division 2. On Sunday the seconds beat Wearmouth, Rainton Batting first reached 184 all out, in reply Wearmouth were bowled out for 96. The firsts travelled the huge distance to Belmont to play our nearest neighbours. Batting first Neil Matthews added 14 and Chris Valance 10. They were followed by Michael Williamson 15, Will Orchin 5 and Luke Richardson 5. However the bulk of our total of 174 was made up by Michael Robbie 74 not out and Lee Henderson 38 not out. In reply Belmont boasted a team effort of 90 all out with most players contributing to the score. With skipper Will Orchin taking 6 for 39, Chris Paton 0 for 13, Ian Kitching 1 for 6 and Chris Valance 3 for 26. So by giving us an 84 run victory.
Whilst up at the Hazard the seconds were reclaiming top spot in Division 2 with a win over Belmont seconds. The lads struggled with the bat on a damp and lively wicket, Colin Henderson 9, Manav Seth 18, Stuart Archbold 1, Connor Henderson 1, James Messer 10, Scott Gillan 6, Steve Hutchinson 6, Kit Kumar 23 not out, Glen Moody 22, Darren Portrey 11 and Derrick Steinberg 4 not out to close the innings with nine down. WIt R Welsh doing the damage taking 3 for 20. After tea Belmont also struggled with top scorer C Wilson coming in at number ten and making 10 runs. Darren Portrey 0 for 13, Derrick Steinberg 4 for 17 and Glen Moody 5 for 20 saw us to a comfortable 68 run victory.
